i too have an engine with a lifter that has given trouble adjusting. so i
went to change it with my "foolproof" tool , a small screwdriver like tool with
threads on the end that usually grab the lifter by the oil hole and pull out
the most varnished up part. this time i was only able to move that lifter
length of its stroke , then all it did was click as i moved it , like a positive
feel , not like varnish. must be mushroomed over. so i gave it up for
now , and hope to deal with it without tearing the engine down. any other ideas
that have worked? most of the time this little tool from a dollar store years
ago has worked on the most stubborn lifters. it is a very small shaft with a
handle on it and tapered threads like a self tapper. it is just right to
grab lifters by the oil hole firmly. this time i got fooled badly.
regards, tim colson
