stubborn white walls can be cleaned with carb cleaner or stoddard  solvent.  
keep a clean (preferably white) rag wet with the solvent as you  make a 
comeplete circle around the wite without stopping. i used old pillow  cases as the 
rags. works when belch white wont. after that i use armorall  on them.  should 
say "used" because most of my stuff now has  blackwalls.
i am getting very lazy in my later years...
