This past week end our Head of the Lakes Corvair Association entered the
World of wheels Car show locally. We had 9 Corvairs entered and had a great
display of almost every year represented. We placed 3rd in the Club Display. We
thought we took 1st place but were mistaken. We didn't figure we were in the
running so didn't attend the awards. Still 3rd place is great for us. We
rejuvenated the club 3 yrs ago after the club disbanded and started with 3
members. We now have a membership close to 25 not counting spouses. We do a lot of
fun things and keep active. The show was a great success for us. We are
starting to attract new members. They are seeing us at shows having fun and doing
community things like our 2 food drives every year and want to be a part of
the action. All the comments at the show were good ones. I mentioned in a
previous post that we got the usual Nader killed the Corvair comments. This was
turned into threads that the Corvair was looked at negatively at show. We don't
see that at all. The clubs that host cars shows around here have opened a
class up for Corvairs only. That's working together. We get out and drive them
as much as we can and show them off. This always brings on a story of, My Dad
had one of those, or I learned to drive in a Corvair. Our club members are
always working on a members car to help keep it on the road. That's why we
have a club. And other clubs now see that we are here to stay and want to be
part of the fun. When we started up the club I thought if we could get 12
members that would be tops. We have more than doubled that and still growing. They
way we did it was to have fun and help each other. Others see it and it's an
attraction. It works for us.
