How about a 3:27 in a 110 PG Greenbrier? I've got that combo in my 67
coupe,
but a little "scared" to try it in the Greenbrier. In the coupe I fudged a
little with a torque converter with slightly higher than stock stall
speed...
works well, but a van? Anyone tried it?

Mike - I swiped a 110 PG (w/ 3.27 gear) powertrain from a crunched 65 coupe
and installed it in a VW Camper with a Hadley TransVair kit - way back in
1975. The all-up vehicle weight was about the same as a Greenbriar Deluxe. On the
flatlands it was fine but it REALLY didn't like the hills. If I could hit a
hill at about 65 MPH, the 110 would usually pull up the hill okay, if it
wasn't too steep. But if I hit it at 55 or 60 - I was dead meat. I had to drop
the speed to about 40, shift to Low gear and (relatively) crawl up. I really
suggest at least a 3.55 with the PG. Since 75 MPH is as fast as I would drive
any FC - (VW or Corvair), I would choose a 3.89 with the PG, depending on tire
size. (You would have 14 or 15 inch tires, unlike the stock "car"
application.) You could then pull the hills at 60-65 MPH in Drive, since you would be
"on the cam" of the 110. Of course, you would sacrifice some MPG, but it would
be much nicer to drive. If you went with a 95HP motor (not suggested), a
3.55 would probably be okay. - Seth Emerson
