Hi Jon,
First, tell us about the rebuild. What CR are you running? Is the pinging  
something new, or did it do that before the rebuild?
 
Try disconnecting the VA and plugging the line. Does this affect the  
pinging? Is the distributor the original? Or a different one?
The sec carbs shouldn't affect the pinging unless they are malfunctioning  
badly.
