I think the issue is if it wears down or off the lobes of the cams, then it  
can also wear down other metal objects that are under pressure or moving.   If 
the cam lobes wear off, I would believe that metal has to go somewhere, and  
little bitty pieces of worn cam are not going to be very good for bearings,  
which need to be smooth, and have lots of lubrication without little  
microfilings in it.  Just my .02.
