I would like to have my engine look, like it would have if a younger person
of that time period had bolted on some items to get a little more HP.

The little air cleaners that Clarks sells (C11611) are pretty close to what
was available then. The current Clarks air cleaners have a notched rubber
base and a radiator clamp. The original air cleaners had a die-cast base
the fit the top of the carburetor and a hex-head set-screw (that didn't work
all that well) that dug into the side of the round carburetor top. In those
days, many people would eliminate the PCV and run a hose overboard. A
see-through fuel filter and chrome fuel pressure regulators were common.
Don't forget the chrome voltage regulator cover and chrome oil cap. Franz
oil filters (Aluminum housing with TP roll inside - surprisingly efficient
btw) were sometimes present. Water injection units (glass jar with small
pump) made it onto more than a few cars. I sorta remember fan belts with
white squares every 1/2" too - but that could be some sort of flashback;-)
If you really want to go whole hog, don't forget the tar-top battery...
