It's a shame about quality in that era...there were some great cars that
came out of Detroit in the late Sixties but... a friend of my mother's,
bought a brand new 1968 Continental Mark III, one of the most expensive cars
you could buy. No matter how many times he brought it back to the
dealership, they couldn't fix all the bugs. Finally, they just took the car
back and gave him a regular Lincoln Continental instead...

I have a '65, '66, '67, & '68. The '66 has the best body quality, pretty
close behind is the '68. On the other hand, the '65 and '67 both had poor
fit (shape) on the trunk and deck lid and neither one has "fixable" door
gaps, meaning the door openings are oddly sized.
In another corner of the shop, I happen to have a customer's '70 Mark III.
It's original, not restored, with 38k and its body and interior quality is
exemplary. It's a fabulous car - except for the handling. Under the hood
there's a small device that's labeled "Kelsey-Hayes anti-skid system."
Apparently that's the beginning of ABS brakes but I have no idea what it
does. There are no wires and only one hose - it looks like a filter or
valve. The car's owner is in our local Corvair club and also has a very nice
'63 Spyder convertible.
