Smitty says: Going by the stock specifications with a stock engine is always a good idea. You aren't very likely to out think the GM engineers. Once you change something though you may find that the requirements change. Higher compression, different cam, hotter ignition. Even expecting maximum performance at higher continous rpms. Running stock gap with something like an HEI would be so counterproductive you might as well take the HEI off. Open up the gap to something like .040 and than the HEI can do what it was designed to.
