the turbos i rebuilt with bent , cracked vanes also showed signs of lack of  
lube somehow , or gold wear on the shafts from dirty oil or such. the oil  was 
black or some such lack of care. basically it was something that slowed  the 
vanes somehow when the engine exhaust was super hot...or a goodly dose of  
carbon or rust went thru . make sure of good oil feed and open drain  pipe. one 
had a print of a small screw in a vane.  if carbon was built  up under the 
exhaust impeller , or bearing was very loose ..it could grab and  slow or stop the 
vanes sudden like. there are a lot of tolerances that can cause  this , loose 
or tight. there is a lot to it!
been there done that , sold all my tools and went powerglides...
