Background - it's a custom built, no-brand machine. Ever since day-one,
it's had a nasty glitch in it that even the builder couldn't fix. It was
built with a new motherboard and processor.
Man, a homebuilt computer and dial up Internet, you are such the Caveman....
My recommendation is that you find a door that you want to keep open in a gentle breeze and prop the door open with this "custom built" computer.
Perhaps you have a boat that might need to be secured in a gentle current...
There are so many possible causes for this type of problem. Finding it remotely is like finding the preverbal needle (that's it, maybe you have a needle somewhere in your computer).
Get a newer, factory built computer with an OS newer than Windows 3.1. You can find some very good used computers for nearly nothing (because that's their value) at garage sales or used computer stores. There are many ways to transfer data between the computers. You might have to use CDs, floppies or cassette tapes, if you have no network capability?or slow Internet connection. (I don't think 8 tracks will work, I know two cups and a string won't).
The only thing 'homebuilt' computers are good for is experimentation. If you want an appliance, buy one. You wouldn't use a dishwasher or refrigerator you built as your primary device, would you?
Mark, I hope you understand that I was just having some fun, at the expense of your computer capability, and didn't take offense, as I ment none. I?also hope that you did see some of the real advice, as little as it might have been, in the message.
Ned
