Take the cable loose from the speedometer head, pull out the center
cable and inspect it. If is damaged, replace it. Light fraying, replace
just the core. If major damage, replace the whole cable (inner core and
outer housing).
If the center looks good, lubricate and reinstall. There is a special
graphite lube that works very well. Google speedometer lube. Maybe mix
Lock-Ease with more graphite in a pinch...???
A noisy speedometer with wild readings is common on a cold day. (Wow!
100 mph in city driving!) Lube will correct that.
