I just fixed mine but, it was not the spring. Mostly is due to wear. I fixed mine with some grinding on an internal part (see the pictures) and welding an small rod where the lever moves the opening mechanism as it was opening at about 70 degrees from the horizontal position. It is now perfectly horizontal and opens at about 40 degrees. All fixings are not visible unless you make a disassembly. Pictures are send one by one for easier e-mailing.
