i recently ran into a batch (more than one!!) of bad drives. they were new  
off the shelf from an automotive electrical supplier in town i have used for  
many years.
symptoms were  not engaging at times , to just plain not engaging. i  could 
not believe the first comeback , but 3?  always happens when you are  trying to 
do a favor , plus it was 60 miles away..
so go at it with an open mind.
