to minimize the possibility of damage to the fuel system always blow in the  
direction of flow on anything.  you can blow the filter off the pickup in  the 
tank ., or wreck the valves in the fuel pump , or if an added filter is  
inline , it may have a rubber flow valve in it...off subject , never blow  
backwards on smaller engines either , i wrecked an expensive fuel pump on an  18hp 
onan once doing that.  they have small stainless reeds in the pump  which were 
trashed beyond hope with one small toot...expensive education.
