When a Corvair Convertible gets acquired by someone in England, or a British person here in the states, does it not get referred to as a drop head coupe. The top becomes the hood, the trunk becomes the boot, and the hood becomes the bonnet. The fenders become wings and with the tyres properly inflated, some petrol in the tank, hurry up, run along, in you go, all buckled in, a quick twist of the key, the beast awakens, mash the loud pedal and very merrily down the motorway we go. As for the term rag top, it is universally accepted by all the English speaking nations. (World Motor Car Treaty- ratified in 1927, Amended 1958 to include Jeeps ) The perfect example of a rag top was the convertible Caddy driven by Detective Jack Cates (Nick Nolte) in the 1982 movie 48hours.
