<VV> Replacing backup light switch

Hello,
My backup light switch was damaged on my 1963 Monza with 4 speed  
transmission.  I've located the
switch under the car on the body of the transmission.  My question  
is:  if I remove the switch from the fitting on
the transmission, will transmission fluid come out of the opening? Is  
this switch acting as a plug to keep the
fluid from coming out?  I just want to be prepared when my face is  
under the switch.
