I don't know about Europe but I was told many years
ago the reason there are so many 4 doors in Oz is
because coupes were considered sports cars, as were
convertibles. Therefore the insurance was considerbly
higher.I  don't know if this is still the case but at
that time the government regulated Insurance in
Australia. One of the rules was you couldn't drive
with your arm on resting on the door opening. I have a
Ford Courier there now and for what I insure it for I 
Insured my Ford E 150, my wifes Windstar (full
coverage) and my 4 DOOR Corvair. Somethings in
Australia are very expensive.
