<VV> twisted control arm

The misalignment is probably a combination of bushing set, and the fact the control arm describes an arc to provide wheel travel and tips the lower control arm attaching point, as shown as "monolever" here. http://www.largiader.com/paralever/diagrams.gif
Good Twisting compliance is part of why rubber bushing are used at various suspension joints, and their willy nilly replacement with urethane or metal bushings with little or no compliance can result in suspension binding. Binding can also result from "boxing" OEM control arms that are made of channel, thereby increasing the torsional stiffness about 100 X.
I use a combination of jacks, clamps, and the mysterious large tapered alignment punch that comes with the larger punch sets, or a tool like this http://gmesupply.com/images/3239_med.jpg to ease the worst aligned hole to a position a bolt can be inserted.

Hi one and all.
I have a problem with reattaching my lower control arms on my 66 convertable. I
took the engine out to re do all the seals this winter. Now I can't get the
passenger side control arms to match up with the differential carrier. I followed the procedure in
the shop manual and in How to keep your Corvair alive, but the arm seems to be
twisted at about a 30 degree angle, so that the top right bolt will line up but
everything else is twisted down. The driver side matches up okay follwoing the
proceedure in the manual. I have take out the shock, but that doesn't help.
Anybody have a similar problem? (please don't tell me its an expensive fix)
Thanks for your cooperation. The sooner this is fixed the sooner we're on the
road.
All the best
Robert Paul
