Just a technicality - it is called the Rear Housing, not the "timing cover".

any worn pushrods i have seen have gotten mushroomed over on the cam end
and 
cant be removed from the top.    so if you cant pull it out  get ready to 
pull the timing cover.  just ran across it on an engine i  parted out.  i
had to 
grind the end to get it out.  cam seems to have  survived.  in this case i 
found the new fuel pump was left loose amoung  other problems (such as not
one 
drop of oil in it).  at least the heads i  wanted are ok.
