Concerning the locating of noises and bad bearings, an ancient method which it seems that most of you forgot is to use a length of small diameter hose, something akin to fuel line hose. While not as accurate as the screwdriver method for locating bearings, it is a bit less dangerous although you do have to use two hands for obvious reasons. Also, avoid turning your head to the side; for some reason or other, this is a natural and sometimes painful thing to do.
This is also the ancient method of balancing carburetors and, with experience, is as accurate as using a UniSyn.
