Most folks brew their own for the Corvair - a mix of chassis lube and gear 
lube -like 90 weight. As I recall, GM changed their mind a couple of times.  
Even the new designers don't have all the answers. Flaming River had to muscle 
their supplier to change the lube in the Corvair box. Of course, most newish 
cars are using Rack & Pinion steering. - Seth Emerson
