<VV> gas tank leak (a tip - but also humor)

I probably should not admit in public - but while doing a floor patch job on
a (semi-beater) LM, I managed to drill a hole in the tank. Yes... it was
full at the time and the gas came spurting into the passenger compartment.
What to do! First, I stuck a sheet metal screw through the floor and into
the tank. Well, can't leave it like that. Quickly, I stuck about three
sticks of gum (Big Red as I recall) in my mouth and chewed as fast as
possible. Got it good and pliable and applied it to the hole (removing the
screw). It HELD! It was late and the stores were closed.
The next day, I went to the hardware store for one of those epoxy sticks -
the kind with two colors which you kneed together. Before I applied that, I
drove the car around a while to get the gas level down a bit. Applied the
epoxy and it stayed fixed (at least for me). I sold it about 3 years later
and the epoxy was still holding tight.
Later, JR
