<VV> sealing oil pump shaft

I have the crank pulley off to replace the real main seal on my Corsa and I thought that since the upper end of the oil pump shaft is right there I would go ahead and clean it off and seal it to stop a potential future leak.  Should I use JB Weld or some other potion?  Any best way to get it clean enough for the sealant to bond well.  Appreciate the advice.
