I just use some stuff that I bought in a five gallon can from Advance Auto. Don't remember what it was called. Don't actually have a parts washer, but just a solvent tank that I let stuff sit in. Let aluminum parts sit for days/weeks and had no problems.
I can tell you, probably because of environmental concerns, the parts cleaners you can get these days don't work anywhere near as good as stuff you could get 10+ years ago. That stuff probably had cholrinated hydrocarons (mixtures of carbon tet and other compounds) and would really strip oil and grease off of most stuff. However, it's pretty volatile and the halogens (chlorine) are not good for the ozone. So today we soak stuff for a week and then use LOTS of elbow grease (something that is not always easy to get out of an 18 year old kid--- my son).
