<VV> Parts washer fuid

I just bought a parts washer for the engine rebuild.  Most of the solvents I have seen say not to use it on aluminum.  I contacted one of the companies and they put me through to the chemist who said it would "eat" aluminum.  What kind of solvent should I use?  Any suggestions?  BTW I'm new to the list here and just wanted to say thanks for all of the replies on my fuel injection question.  This forum is great.
