I bought 5996 in early 2000 from AJ Stone in VA. I transfered the car to
Napa CA where I live. The car was advertised in Corsa - I paid $8,000.00
for it at the time. It was totally original other than a respray - which
was very well executed. It had 14,800 miles on it when I bought it and it
had 17,500 miles on it when I sold it. I sold it to a collector in MD who
paid me $16k for it in March 2004. As far as build quality - it was a very
nice 1969. No squeeks or rattles in that car. Super clean and very
straight. The car was always well cared for.
The same collector also bought 5233 from me at the same time. 5233 is
Olympic Gold and has 13 documented miles on it and was in absolutely
perfect, completely original condition. It had one of the best paint jobs
I have ever seen on a 69 - as good as just about any Corvair. Absolutely
one of the finest competely original 1969s I have seen. 110 with a 3
speed. I bought it from the original owner. I would love to have that car
back - has anyone seen it??
The new owner contacted me shortly after the purchase and said he was
interested in selling both cars as he was changing the direction of his
collection. 5996 did a boomerang and wound up back in CA for sale in
Sacramento and has been there - for sale - ever since. I do not know what
happened to 5233.
