Perhaps he's thinking of the 1954 Corvette Fastback concept that was named
"Corvair".  There is a pic in Tony Fiore's "The Corvair Decade".

I didn't find anything like what was described, but I did spot one 
thing.   Check the "1960" page of this site's PDF.
