Maybe he's including reverse with the other three making it a gen-u-ine 4

The seller advertises this '63 convertible as having a 4-speed manual 
transmission but the gear shift knob in the pic is clearly black.  With the
exception 
of '69s, weren't all Corvairs with black gear shift knobs equipped with 
3-speeds?
