This contract wasn't signed with this requirement in place. It also wasn't
excluded because who would have though of it?
I understand the reasoning for the requirement, when you book a block of
rooms, you get a block of meeting rooms if they are all sold. In the past,
CORSA members have booked the required number of rooms and CORSA has
scheduled the meeting rooms only to have enough people cancel that the hotel
charges CORSA for the meeting rooms. I expected when I heard this policy
and I'm sure the rest of CORSA BoD and management did was expect people to
give there CC number and guaranty one night.
The hotel being creative, decided to put these guarantied first nights into
the cheapest category with their credit card processor and require visual
proof of the card and a valid ID. If the first night is to use round
numbers $100 and if the person cancels and they don't get the ID, the hotel
gives CORSA $100 and they get dinged with a $3 credit card processing fee so
they actually lose $3. If they get all the ID, the processing fee is only
$2. It's no skin off the hotel's head to lower their risk only $2 by
requiring the extra identification. I would classify it as CS, but
considering CORSAs past performance of rooms book vs. rooms used they look
to save some money $1 at a time.
I would suggest, people just send a check rather than hassle with the
requirements of using a credit card.
I speak for myself and not CORSA or M&P.
