You have not looked at a new car in the past 15 years or so?  In IL, the 
salesman routinely makes a copy of the DL before he lets you drive off the 
lot for a test ride.

I'd not FAX DL or CC info anywhere!  Some DLs (not mine) have the SS# on 
them as well.
