Go buy a bicycle tire inner tube and cut it into strips about one inch wide and maybe 4 to 10 inches long. Drop the tank down, and use weather strip cement to glue the rubber strips on the "ridges". The stuff you get from the vendors basically looks just like this, only they don't really give you enough.
