Smitty says:  Thanks to the many who enlightened me on the reason for a vacuum solenoid when using a turbo Vac Adv/ Press Ret.  Makes sense even though I have had no drivability problems with it.  I will make the change just in case it might give me a mile or two jump in gas mileage.
  As for the Ignition powered run -on problem, I will look into that tomorrow.  This time of year the old bod can only stand so many hours out in the heat.  As I tried to make plain in my question.  This is not a normal dieseling problem, but it is getting enough reduced power from someplace to provide some kind of spark.  I will let you know what I find.  Thanks again.
