Been awhile since I've done this, but I think that at LEAST the jugs have to
come off; maybe the pistons. Probably easier to pull the jugs AND the
pistons as a complete assy since you've got the turkey roaster off, and
access to the top cover is easy (for piston removal).
Helicoil or Time Sert inserts would be my choice for thread repair.
I have the pleasure of replacing all 20 headbolt block threads on a
Northstar in the coming weeks. Another aluminum wonder.
