there if you present it properly, and frankly, girls learn faster than boys

testosterone and a "Y" chromosome, rather than a skill that has to be
learned, and don't feel that "listening" is a part of the gig!), and need
the skills just as much or more than your sons.>>SNIP
Hey guys,
I'm gonna chime in there with John... my oldest daughter, Sarah, will be a
senior in high school this fall... early last winter a buddy gave me a 1991 VW
Jetta ECOdiesel with 255K miles on it, and Sarah got her learner's permit.
She's been learning the ins & outs of owning a diesel (plug it in on cold nights,
make sure the oil is topped off, as well as the coolant, and add Power Service
to the fuel on a semi-regular basis)... she's been a little reluctant to
learn how to drive a 5 speed, but I've told her from day #1, "learn to drive a
vehicle with a manual transmission and you can drive anything with wheels"...
she's more than willing to help with oil changes, brake jobs, or anything car
related... when she took the ASVAB the instructor looked at her scores and said
"Anyone who needs help with their car repair or maintenance should see Sarah
after class"... she's also strong in the sciences, English, and art.... the only
subject she's not strong in is her math skills, but she still passed her
algebra classes with low Bs....
To top it off she's 5' 10.5" and can toss a bale of hay with the best of
'em.... I pity the fool who ticks her off...
;-)
I know she's competent enough to change a belt or tire on the side of the
road... and she's not afraid to get oil on her hands...
That's MY girl!
As far as the car is concerned, the Jetta gets 43+ MPG when driven
sensibly... and she's looking to go to Eastern Ky University and major in Law
Enforcement ( I guess that comes from having one uncle in the FBI {my brother-in-law}
and another uncle serving a 10 year stretch in the state prison {my brother})...
since EKU is a little over 100 miles away, the Jetta will make trips home
affordable... if she lasts that long.
;-)
I also told her my first car was a '68 VW Beetle... it was one year younger
than I was, just as her first car is a VW and its one year younger than she
is....
Funny how that worked out...
