And you probably had to finance most of it. 

I bought my first Corvair in the fall of '68 for $1300, and I had to
finance at least half of it, as I recall. As a reference, the
average-optioned '69 Corvair stickered for around $2800. I have vivid
recollections of the three that one local dealer had on his lot. A
no-option 500, and two average-option Monza hardtops (a 110glide and a
140/4sp). Both Monzas were stickered at just about that, $2800
something.

Anyone know where an inflation index table might be found? It would be
interesting to see how old car prices would translate in today's
dollars.
