The Mopar muscle values were next to nothing prior to a decade ago. The aftermarket repro/restoration firms like Classic and NPD didn't even have catalogs for most Mopars then at a time when nearly all Ford & Chevy, GMC , and Pontiac was covered. Olds Cutlass coverage and A/G body Buicks were all represented. It was hard to find a proper replacement gas gap for many Mopars. Don Johnson and Cheech Marin's television show which the yellow Hemi cuda reproduction vert was the biggest automobile tv star since Magnum or ol Bo & Luke. Don & Cheech did more for making Mopars and Hemis really cool again than Cheech and Tommy did for JOB or Tops sales in the '70's. Suddenly Mopars were no longer the red headed step child of the retro muscle mania. Could this happen for the Corvair? No, and thats probably a good thing... It would be neat to see a sharp mildly customized late model red convertible used frequently by the main character of a new
successful television series. Chances are more likely that if a Corvair was used it would be more like Fred Sanford's truck, Al Bundy's Dodge, or Columbo's ragged Peugot convertible than the Firebird that Garner drove. I think I saw somewhere that comedian/actor Tim Allen acquired a Yenko Stinger that he plans to vintage race. These will likely be the only ones that will ever see prime time in Speed's Barrett-Jackson coverage or one of the factory specials like the Pininfarina car etc. When the turbo Monza Spyders and Corsas start gaining significant interest among the B-J crowd and talk turns to COPO Corvairs, look out. ..Not very likely to occur, which to borrow Martha Stewart's catch phrase, "Its A Good Thing." Drive them, enjoy them, restore and make them the way you like them and have some fun. Make intelligent and prudent investment choices. Automobiles are not part of a sound diversified portfolio! Automobiles are not
investments! Vintage Automobiles are always an expensive hobby that should bring a level of pleasure and fun which makes it worthwhile. Blood, Sweat & Tears had a hit called Spinning Wheel ...what goes up must come down.... Don't worry too much about fuel prices, whether Vair values rise or fall, just keep putting your blood, sweat, and tears into building/restoring your favorite car and let that flat six baby cruise the roads... you could even name her Lucretia MacEvil since your Vair has made you so very happy.
