My questions are: Do I have the chokes adjusted improperly or is it a choke
pull off problem? Choke pull-offs are new and working. What is a good
setting for the choke unloader adjustment? The recommended setting doesn't seem
to open the chokes enough for an easy restart after being flooded. Thank
you for your help. Dennis Dorogi
Hi Dennis,
It's had to diagnose via the internet.....It sounds like your choke
adjustment. But I suggest that you do some diagnosis to be sure. First would be to
check the choke adjustments and freedom of motion. With the air cleaners off ,
disconnect the clips and choke rods from the carburetors. See that the
chokes just close fully when you pull up on the choke rods and the rods just enter
the holes in the arms. Reconnect and check for non-binding movement. Then
check the pull-offs for proper opening of the choke plates. This is involved,
so follow the shop manual for this step. Then check the unloader opening of
the choke. This can be increased to about 1/2 inch. You can easily check that
the fast idle cams are being set visually or by usually by listening for the
click.
Finally, next time you want to start the engine, remove the carb covers
first and see what the fuel level is in the bowl. You may have levels that are
too low due to evap or leaks or float settings. level should be about 0.7 inch
from the top of the bowl.
