<VV> Size Matters - some Corvair

I am just writing to advise those who don't ship Corvair parts regularly to get ready for a shock when you pay the new rates with any shipper. As an extreme (small) example, I used to be able to ship someone a piece of carb linkage for 63-cents, but now I can put it in what should be a 58-cent envelope, BUT because it is barely over 1/4 inch thick and doesn't "bend", it is $1.35. ONLY a 114% increase! Flat rate box costs have also increased about 10% or more. UPS is getting even worse as they now value size over weight. The USPS says that a penny increase in gas prices costs them $8 million. An article in our local paper today had a story about a business that used to ship a large inflated balloon thing in 5 large boxes. They now find it cheaper to break it down into 39 smaller ones (wouldn't you love to be the one opening it?). Just be sure to consider this when quoting the price for parts, or when purchasing them, as you might find that it costs more to ship it than buy it. See...size matters.
