Smitty Says: Just got home a couple of hours ago and I am whipped but thought I'd drop a post anyway. This convention was a pleasant surprise. The hotel was great, plenty of parking (and no charge for that), sizable flea market, beautiful setting for the concours, great big (but rough) autocross course. I didn't take part in the econo run or rally so I won't comment on that. Unfortunately they had the VV meeting set up for the end of the event and I didn't care to stay another night in the hotel just for that. Sorry guys, I would have enjoyed seeing you all again. I was happy to catch up with a good number of you just wandering around anyway. The wagon ran like a champ at 70 mph while giving a 21.5 mpg average, going and coming. Not too shabby for a PG car. I had the pleasure of meeting Jim Dallas from Kansas (one of the Go-Neds. I say pleasure because he races an Early as any self respecting corvair racer would. Also saw the WTBRT guys at their best at both
Waterford and at the autocross. That new beef car is hot. Oh Yeah, I got recognition for BBRT at the autocross doing something no one else had guts enough to do. Came out of the hole hot and went right up the exit chute instead of the course entrance. Considering that they were running two cars at a time the potential to meet an outgoing car head on was real great. Fortunately the red flag guys were on their toes. One of the highlights for me was the guest speakers after the CPF meetings. To hear those guys talk who were on the ground floor of the development of the Corvair and its defense during the Nader years was fascinating to me. While it might have left glazed eyeballs on some, I was enthralled with the talk of roll centers, CGs, slip angles and other parts of steering and performance geometry. Inside stories about GM bigwheels helped keep the intrest up. Well my brief post is getting long so I quit. Later
