<VV> wiper arm removal

Can anyone out there in cyberspace give me a clue as to how I can  
remove the windshield wiper arms on my 66 Monza without causing a  
great deal of damage to the front cowl cover?  I bought new arms  
blades and all from Clarks, along with a removal tool (sort of like a  
reverse plier???  I cannot see a way to accomplish what I desire to  
do without causing a great deal of damage...Help!
