<VV> intermittent starter revisited-solved

For those who offered advice, Thanks.
   
   The solenoid was functional but the main contact was a bit arced, so an almost new solenoid from the stash was substituted after inspection, disassemble and cleaning. Also the starter drive lever has significantly worn surfaces, so it too was replaced by a spare from the stash.
   
   Checked brushes, cleaned, lubed etc. 
   
   It seems to work fine just now. I think the main contact in the solenoid was the culprit.
