I have a photocopy of the 1964 specs that came with my documentation package
from GM Canada.
Here's the info:
FRONT SPRINGS
3848975 (All cars ex. cvt.)
Right hand helix, Steel alloy, heat treated and drawn
cut-off length= 90.351"
number of coils (active, total) 5.85, 7.184
wire diameter= 0.470"
outside diameter= 4.393"
pitch diameter= 3.923"
Height (free)= 10.651"
Height (working)= 6.42" at 770 lbs.
Deflection rate between 8.95" & 11.95"= 182 lbs.(at spring) 106.5 lbs.(at
wheel)
CONVERTIBLE FRONT SPRINGS
3826077 same as 3848975 except as follows:
cut-off length= 92.18"
number of coils (active, total) = 5.58, 7.85
Height (free)= 11.12"
Height (working)= 6.42" at 855lbs.
REAR SPRINGS
LEFT side (All exc. cvt.) 3848969
cut-off length= 111.687"
number of coils (active, total) =7.50, 8.834
wire diameter= .506"
outside diameter= 4.465"
pitch diameter= 3.959"
Height (free)= 13.369"
Height (working)= 7.45" at 1095lbs.
deflection rate between 5.95" & 8.95"= 185 lb./in. (at spring) 142.5
lb./in. (at wheel)
RIGHT side (all exc. cvt.) 3848967
same as 3848969 except as follows:
cut-off length= 98.804"
number of coils (active, total)= 6.50, 7.834
wire diameter= .486"
outside diameter= 4.425"
pitch diameter= 3.939"
Height (free)= 12.585"
Height (working)= 7.45" at 950 lbs.
CONVERTIBLE
LEFT side 3848970
same as 3848969 except as follows:
Height (free)= 12.585"
Height (working)= 7.45" at 1170 lbs.
RIGHT side 3848968
same as 3848969 except as follows:
cut-off length= 98.804"
number of coils (active, total)= 6.50, 7.834
wire diameter= .486"
outside diameter= 4.425"
pitch diameter= 3.939"
Height (free)= 13.018"
Height (working)= 7.45" at 1030 lbs.
