30 minutes? Maybe 5 (at most) in the cold Midwest. You meant 30 seconds
(you are in CA), right? But, I agree that he needs some local help as well
as the Chassis manual (or other pertinent literature).
If it has not come off of fast idle after 3 - 4 minutes, tap the accelerator
pedal and the Rs should come down considerably.
Yesterday, he said it would not crank over and blamed it on low battery
(probably at least part of the problem and maybe even all of it at that
time). It is also possible that there is too much advance cranked into the
distributor - and that could also affect the RPMs after he got enough charge
on the battery to start it. I really doubt the problem is in the choke
coils. Too much advance makes for a motor that won't turn over on the
starter - especially if it is already warm.
