Better if the engine would not shut off if in the cooking range. However
that would not be a trivial cost since you need a switch that would trigger
at about 300F and could stand temperatures up to 1200F for years. Now an
oil temperature sender in the return line from the turbo would work also.
The problem with a seperate coolin system and an electric pump is that
failure of the pump would be even worse. OTOH if a synthetic is used, the
effects of early shutdown would be minimised.
Mix in the fact that adding a turbo by itself is not cheap and that EGT
gauges usually are a bit vague under 400F and you get some idea of the issue.
Finally the ability of an American driver to ignore a warning light,
sometimes for months is legendary. Better to build the system so that it
can tolerate an early shutdown when up to speed. Fortunately few live on
top of mountains.
