Hey Smitty,
I've never used a vacuum bleeder either... I just get the old trusty 16 oz  
glass Coke bottle with the homemade coat hanger hook attached and put a hose on 
 the bleeder and into the bottom of the bottle (with about an inch of brake 
fluid  in the bottle)... I use a few small bottles of brake fluid, and slowly 
pump  the brakes until I have to fill the MC about 3 times... tighten the 
bleeder and  go to the next wheel... I've never had a problem that way... and it's 
almost as  good as having the fluid flushed out... (if there's any in there to 
begin  with!)...
Oh, and once the coke bottle is full, you can pour the excess into the  empty 
plastic brake fluid bottle...

I've been doing it that way for years... oh, and you hang the bottle so the  
hose has an arch so the bubbles don't try to linger near a crimped part of the 
 hose....
Piece of cake!
And no need for fancy tools... unless you're into that kind of stuff...  <vbg>
