wish to delte now)

Whew...! Well - as promised - it is after midnight. Oh, it was supposed to
be yesterday. Hey, what do you want from volunteer help?
There were 3 or 4 who sent the info privately. I think that happened after
a complaint or two hit the open forum. My "message rules" are set to send
anything with "<VV>" in the subject line to a specific folder. This is to
keep the VV stuff away from the other 30 - 40 emails per day. So, I've not
yet taken the time to go search those out (no VV in subject line) for this
report. If I get around to it, I'll update these counts - but I don't
recall anything that would make a significant difference to this report.
ANYWAY...
The original post that got me into all this trouble was:
PASTE....
Has anyone done a survey to find out the average amount of Corvairs owned by
CORSA members. Not that it would be important, just sort of interesting.
Maybe 2 categories - not early and late - drivable and nondriveable.
END PASTE
With that post, I was hopeful that someone ELSE would step up and collect
the "data". That did not happen, so it became a matter of "put your $$
where your mouth is" under my particular morality code.
Let me say that not everyone followed the "guidelines" as set out in that
post (SURPRISE - NOT). It started out OK, but then the distinction between
drivable and not started to blur. Words like "stashed" or "stored" did not
tell me anything about drivablity (this only applies to a very few and I
worked around it so don't get your nose out of joint) - so the numbers you
will see here are TOTALS of all (currently) owned Corvairs reported by VV
members. My best guess - impression is a better word (I did NOT count) that
something in the neighborhood of 10 to 15% (closer to 10 I think) of those
reported (included in the counts) will NEVER see the road again. These are
(sometimes admitted and sometimes not) PARTS cars.
Also, I had no (realistic) way to distinguish CORSA members from non-CORSA
members, so the figures will be based on VV members who reported VS CORSA
members who reported. If there is anyone out there who did not provide
counts because of the "CORSA" requirement, send a private email under the
topic of "how many" and I will update for those.
While I still have your attention - because you are waiting for the #s to
show up, I'd like to note a couple/three (Chicago term) more things.
I counted anything that moves on land (including sand) as a Corvair. This
includes Corvair BODIED - regardless of power plant, Corvair POWERED,
regardless of body. I did not count Corvair powered boats or planes. There
was one boat - no planes. These "non-standard" Vairs were probably around
2% to 3% of the total (estimate - again, not counted).
I did NOT count Vairs which were reported as owned at some past time - only
those reported as being in the current stable.
Something I noted which I thought surprising (significant?) was that a
number of folks (even though not asked for) listed "others" and that an
estimated 35 to 40% of those folks had at least one MoPar in their list.
MANY reported other GMs.
There were a FEW (around Chicago - that means at least 3 or maybe more, but
probably not more than 7, which would be several) who had counts near the
dozen mark (some over and some under). I'm NOT naming anyone here - so
you'll have to go read the emails (or archives) if you want to figure that
out.
So... Here we go....
The highest count was 36. The closest challenger to that (two of them) was
17.
There were 31 folks who reported owning ONE Corvair. Oh... total count of
VV responders is 91. So, if you feel like doing some calcs - there is your
base point, subject to some possible minor future adjustment.
Total VV Responders: 91
Total Vairs (currently) owned: 348.5
I have 1 on my list (not included above) which I can't verify at this time.
It may have come from a private email. But that would not make a
significant difference in any calculations you might wish to perform on
these numbers. It would add one owner with one Corvair.
