Clarification:
DexronR III replaces all other previous DexronR specs as of 1993. As of
last year GM came out with a Dexron VI for certain new transmissions.
The latest version of Dexron III is Dexron III-H, which has a lot longer
life and less oxidation. (graph on www.widman.biz <http://www.widman.biz/>
for those who are not Spanish challenged)
Most Dexron III is also formulated to meet Ford Mercon specs up through
Mercon IV, so most ATF's on the market are Dexron III/Mercon IV. The
cheaper ones may not be "H".
Ford has required Mercon V since the late 90's, depending on the
transmission.
Most Mercon V products are also formulated to meet Dexron III/Mercon IV
specs.
SOME BRANDS (Amsoil, Pennzoil, and others (including one I represent that is
manufactured for export only by American Petroleum Co) have a 100% synthetic
that meets Dexron III, Mercon V, Chrysler ATF+4, Mitsubishi SP-III, and all
previous. - But not Dexron VI.
