I come home from the Performance Workshop, and walk into another April 1
hail storm. Sarah may need to converse with Tony I before writing another
april Column.

To respond to Tony U and others.

A CORSA/CPF board member is expected to attend the annual board meeting at
the convention, to participate in the board discussions during the year
<mostly via email> try to attend the big Corvair events in their area and
respond to questions, suggestions from the membership. And oh, writing an
article once a year for the Communique.
Of course, we need narrow shoulders. <huh?> Narrow shoulders to not try
to carry everything ourselves and to let some sharp comments fall by the way
side. Listening is important. Then, like the local board/chapter does,
the board needs to decide what can and cannot be done. And in what time
frame. Is money involved <CORSA does not have deep pockets, rather shallow
actually> It may be time for some old ideas to be heard again.
CORSA is a diverse club. <look at the wide range of opinions on this topic>
Stock, Race, Performanace, modified. History, perservation, activities.
Elder, younger, successful business people, basic wage earners --- and
everything in between. I can guarantee that everyone will not be happy on
all issues.

rewards -- it sure is not the pay. a small stipend helps with attending
the convention, but may not cover the cost of the extra nights hotel room.
CORSA/CPF is a volunteer organization .

Being part of the process is the primary award. Participating as Concours
judge helped me enjoy the convention much more, i was doing something,
helping, and meeting new friends every year. On the board, it is helping
direct the club into the future. A dying club? I don't buy that. We are
evolving, as we must. CORSA was established as a club whose members were
driving Corvairs daily, in the late 70s. An evolution from the earlier Chev
based club that existed when Corvairs were still being sold new. In both
cases members new Corvairs when they were new. We have been evolving into
Show cars, Cruise-in Cars, and Performance cars. And towards members who
discovered Corvairs later in life. I did not know what a Corvair was until
the early 1980s. Didn't own one until 1987. didn't do a car show until the
mid 1990s and didn't join CORSA until 1996. one of the latter groups.
Helping CORSA transition has been and will continue to be a challenge,
solving the challenge is the reward.

Ideas from the membership, is always appreciated -- send a note to your
board director. It may not be implemented, but it will be heard. its that
balancing act from the diverse membership. Sometimes we are persuaded,
just not at the time of the original suggestion.
