The North Cascades Corvairs club of Western Washington held its first cruise
of 2007 yesterday. Ten hearty members driving a mix of "Vairs took part as
we drove along the
west side of Camano Island to the state park. Upon arriving, we were greeted
by two
bald eagles resting in an old fir tree. After a short walk on the beach and
some picture
taking we left and headed for the town of La Conner. Its an old fishing port
that has been
successfully turned into a quaint tourist town. After some pizza, ale and
car talk at a local brewery, the
club headed home.
And at least for one participant, the time went by too fast.
Oh, one very good thing about the Pacific Northwest. No worries about road
salt out here!

So even though it was cold today and I had nowhere in particular to go, I
took the 65 Monza out for a drive. I love driving that car. I love looking
through the windshield and seeing the fender edges and holding onto that
skinny, hard steering wheel with its little metal rings. It was a great
drive, even though I couldn't put the top down. I got to listen to the
tinney AM radio and I could still hear that Corvair engine back there.
Sweet.
So any of you guys with your pretty cars that you park in the garage and
rarely drive, get 'em out and drive 'em. They love it and you will too
